CERT-FR flags October Microsoft Patch Tuesday
Free public brief. The indicators, the detections with Splunk SPL already written (plus Elastic and KQL where they apply), and a Slack alert the next time this touches a vendor you run are in the app — free account, no card.
CERT-FR advisory lists over 150 Microsoft CVEs patched in October 2026, including flaws enabling remote code execution, privilege escalation and denial of service.
CERT-FR has published its routine advisory summarizing Microsoft's October 2026 Patch Tuesday release, consolidating a very large batch of CVEs affecting a wide range of Microsoft products and components. Affected software spans Windows codecs (HEVC, MPEG-2, Raw Image extensions), Microsoft Exchange Server, SharePoint Server, SQL Server, Configuration Manager, Dynamics NAV, Visual Studio, PowerShell, .NET/ASP.NET Core libraries, Power Apps, PowerToys, Sysinternals Suite, Visual Studio Code, Skype for Business Server, and Linux kernel/third-party components used by Microsoft Defender for Endpoint and the MANA network driver.
The vulnerabilities collectively allow attackers to achieve remote code execution, privilege escalation, remote denial of service, security feature bypass, and breaches of data confidentiality and integrity, depending on the specific flaw and product. No specific details on individual CVE root causes, attack vectors, or proof-of-concept exploitation were included in the truncated advisory text, and CERT-FR does not indicate active in-the-wild exploitation for this batch.
Defenders should treat this as a standard monthly patch cycle: prioritize patching internet-facing and high-value assets first (Exchange, SharePoint, SQL Server, Configuration Manager), then move to developer tooling and extensions. Administrators should consult the Microsoft Security Response Center (MSRC) update guide entries for each CVE to determine affected versions, exploitability assessment, and specific patch guidance, and apply vendor-supplied updates per the referenced bulletins.

What this brief leaves out
This page is the free tier: the write-up, the severity, the names. In the app the same report carries its extracted indicators, its detections (Splunk SPL already written, plus Elastic and Microsoft KQL where they apply), the actors and CVEs it names as live profiles, and the vendor research on the same campaign — the primary source the news paraphrased, cited and read directly.
It sits in a corpus of 13,853 reports from 146 sources, 616 of them written in the last seven days, and it grows through the day.
A new account starts with three days of all of it, no card, then keeps the government and CERT reporting free. Name the vendors you run and Slack hears about the reports that touch them — about forty a week that are yours, not the four hundred that are not.
