CERT-FR flags actively exploited Office RCE flaw

CERT-FR warns of 140+ Microsoft Office vulnerabilities including CVE-2026-96951, which Microsoft confirms is being actively exploited in the wild.

CERT-FR has published an advisory covering a very large batch of Microsoft Office vulnerabilities disclosed in Microsoft's October 13, 2026 security bulletins. The flaws span Microsoft 365 Apps for Enterprise (32/64-bit), Office LTSC 2021 and 2024 (Windows and Mac), Office for Android, Office Online Server, and Outlook.com. Collectively the vulnerabilities enable remote code execution, privilege escalation, information disclosure, denial of service, and security feature bypass.

Of particular note, Microsoft has confirmed that CVE-2026-96951 is being actively exploited in the wild, making it the priority patch item for defenders running affected Office builds. The remaining CVEs (well over 100 identifiers) appear to be a routine, if unusually large, consolidated patch cycle with no other confirmed in-the-wild exploitation noted by CERT-FR.

CERT-FR's guidance is standard: apply the vendor-supplied patches referenced in the Microsoft Security Response Center bulletins for each CVE. Organizations should prioritize deployment of the fix for CVE-2026-96951 given confirmed active exploitation, then roll out the remaining updates across all affected Office editions and platforms per normal patch management cycles.

What this brief leaves out

This page is the free tier: the write-up, the severity, the names. In the app the same report carries its extracted indicators, its detections (Splunk SPL already written, plus Elastic and Microsoft KQL where they apply), the actors and CVEs it names as live profiles, and the vendor research on the same campaign — the primary source the news paraphrased, cited and read directly.

It sits in a corpus of 13,854 reports from 146 sources, 616 of them written in the last seven days, and it grows through the day.

A new account starts with three days of all of it, no card, then keeps the government and CERT reporting free. Name the vendors you run and Slack hears about the reports that touch them — about forty a week that are yours, not the four hundred that are not.
