Ubuntu Linux kernel vulnerabilities enable privilege escalation
Free public brief. The indicators, the detections with Splunk SPL already written (plus Elastic and KQL where they apply), and a Slack alert the next time this touches a vendor you run are in the app — free account, no card.
Multiple Linux kernel flaws in Ubuntu 20.04–26.04 enable privilege escalation, data breach, and denial of service.
CERT-FR has published a security advisory documenting multiple vulnerabilities across the Ubuntu Linux kernel affecting versions 20.04 ESM, 22.04 LTS, 24.04 LTS, 25.10, and 26.04 LTS. These flaws permit privilege escalation, confidentiality breaches, integrity violations, and denial of service attacks. The vulnerabilities span kernel code paths and were patched across seventeen security bulletins (USN-8490-2 through USN-8597-1) released between 17–23 July 2026.
Defenders running affected Ubuntu releases must apply kernel updates from the referenced security notices. The bulletin enumerates over 250 CVEs spanning 2022–2026 allocations, indicating a large backlog of kernel defects addressed in this release cycle. No details on active exploitation are provided, but the breadth and severity range (privilege escalation and data access) warrant prompt patching of internet-facing and critical systems.

What this brief leaves out
This page is the free tier: the write-up, the severity, the names. In the app the same report carries its extracted indicators, its detections (Splunk SPL already written, plus Elastic and Microsoft KQL where they apply), the actors and CVEs it names as live profiles, and the vendor research on the same campaign — the primary source the news paraphrased, cited and read directly.
It sits in a corpus of 13,853 reports from 146 sources, 616 of them written in the last seven days, and it grows through the day.
A new account starts with three days of all of it, no card, then keeps the government and CERT reporting free. Name the vendors you run and Slack hears about the reports that touch them — about forty a week that are yours, not the four hundred that are not.
