Barracuda lists ANETA Ecuador data for sale

elevated threat non-profit

Free public brief. The indicators, the detections with Splunk and KQL already written, and a Slack alert the next time this touches a vendor you run are in the app — free account, no card.

Ransomware group Barracuda claims to be selling stolen customer, financial, and email data from Ecuador's Automovil Club ANETA for $30,000.

Ransomware.live's victim tracker reports that a threat actor/group operating under the name 'Barracuda' has listed Automovil Club del Ecuador ANETA as a victim, claiming to possess and offer for sale a substantial data set. The claimed stolen data reportedly includes a full customer and applications database, customer photos, financial documents, and a complete year's worth of email dump from the organization's mail server, covering numerous individual mailboxes at the aneta.org.ec domain. The listing states the data is currently being sold for $30,000, with no confirmation of ransom payment or further negotiation status provided.

This entry appears to be a leak-site/claim listing rather than a detailed technical report, so no information is available on the initial access vector, exploited vulnerabilities, or lateral movement techniques used in the intrusion. Defenders at ANETA and similar automobile club or membership organizations in the region should treat this as a confirmed or suspected data breach involving PII, financial records, and email communications, and should initiate incident response procedures including credential resets, monitoring for secondary phishing/fraud using leaked data, and forensic investigation to determine the actual scope and entry point of compromise.

Given the sensitive nature of the exposed data (customer PII, financial documents, and a year of email correspondence), the impact to affected individuals and the organization could be significant, including risk of follow-on phishing, fraud, and reputational damage. However, as this is a leak-site claim without corroborating technical detail on exploitation method or scale verification, it is assessed as a moderate-severity breach disclosure typical of ransomware/extortion group activity.

What this brief leaves out

This page is the free tier: the write-up, the severity, the names. In the app the same report carries its extracted indicators, its detections with the Splunk SPL and Microsoft KQL already written, the actors and CVEs it names as live profiles, and the vendor research on the same campaign — the primary source the news paraphrased, cited and read directly.

It sits in a corpus of 10,589 reports from 152 sources, 502 of them written in the last seven days, and it grows through the day.

A new account starts with three days of all of it, no card, then keeps the government and CERT reporting free. Name the vendors you run and Slack hears about the reports that touch them — about forty a week that are yours, not the four hundred that are not.
