Japan's Information-technology Promotion Agency (IPA) has issued an advisory following the end-of-life for Windows 10 on October 14, 2025 (U.S. time). With mainstream support now terminated, Microsoft will no longer provide security updates for Windows 10 Home, Pro, Enterprise, Education, and IoT Enterprise editions under the General Availability Channel (GAC). The Long-Term Servicing Channel (LTSC) variants, used in specialized industries, remain supported with extended timelines. Microsoft offers a one-year Extended Security Update (ESU) program for organizations requiring additional migration time, with consumer ESU now extended through October 2027.

IPA highlights that CISA's Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog listed 15 actively exploited Windows OS vulnerabilities between January and September 2024, growing to 41 by September 2025—a 26-vulnerability increase in one year. Several of these flaws, including CVE-2024-26169, have been weaponized in ransomware campaigns. The agency warns that unsupported systems will accumulate unpatched vulnerabilities, elevating risks of data breaches and service disruptions. Third-party applications running on Windows 10 will also lose vendor support, compounding the security exposure.

IPA urges immediate migration to supported operating systems and coordinated updates of dependent software. Organizations unable to transition immediately should leverage ESU programs while planning their upgrade paths.
