Chrome zero-day CVE-2026-85046 exploited in wild
Google Chrome patches 12 vulnerabilities including a V8 type confusion flaw with a confirmed in-the-wild exploit enabling arbitrary code execution.
MS-ISAC issued an advisory covering twelve vulnerabilities in Google Chrome, the most severe being a type confusion flaw in the V8 JavaScript engine (CVE-2026-85046), for which Google reports an exploit already exists in the wild. Successful exploitation could allow arbitrary code execution in the context of the logged-in user, potentially enabling an attacker to install programs, manipulate or delete data, or create new accounts with full user rights, with impact scaled by the privilege level of the affected account.
The remaining vulnerabilities span use-after-free conditions (Compositing, DevTools, Skia), out-of-bounds read/write issues (CrashReporting, WebGL), a race condition in V8, type confusion in Compositing, improper input validation in Transactions Platform, improper resource exposure in CacheStorage, incomplete cleanup in Network, and use of released resource in Mobile. Affected versions are Chrome prior to 152.0.7977.82/.83 on Windows and Mac, and prior to 152.0.7977.82 on Linux.
Defenders should prioritize immediate patching given the confirmed active exploitation of the V8 flaw, which is typically delivered via drive-by compromise through malicious or compromised web content. Standard mitigations apply: enforce least-privilege browsing, enable anti-exploitation features (DEP, Exploit Guard, SIP/Gatekeeper), deploy DNS/URL filtering, and ensure automated patch management pushes the update across the enterprise without delay.
