Debian Linux kernel patches multiple privilege escalation flaws

routine vulnerability

Debian LTS kernel updates patch multiple vulnerabilities allowing privilege escalation, data breach, and denial of service.

CERT-FR has published an advisory on multiple vulnerabilities discovered in the Linux kernel as packaged in Debian bullseye LTS. The affected versions include Debian bullseye kernel versions prior to 5.10.257-1 and 6.1.174-1~deb11u1. These vulnerabilities span multiple impact categories: privilege escalation, confidentiality breach, and denial of service. The advisory directs administrators to apply kernel patches released by Debian LTS, as documented in two separate security bulletins issued on 29 May 2026.

The vulnerability set includes over 200 assigned CVE identifiers affecting the kernel subsystem. Administrators running Debian bullseye with LTS support must prioritize kernel updates to mitigate the risk of local privilege escalation and system compromise. The breadth of the CVE list indicates this is a consolidation of multiple kernel fixes across different subsystems rather than a single widespread defect.

What this brief leaves out

This page is the free tier: the write-up, the severity, the names. In the app the same report carries its extracted indicators, its detections (Splunk SPL already written, plus Elastic and Microsoft KQL where they apply), the actors and CVEs it names as live profiles, and the vendor research on the same campaign — the primary source the news paraphrased, cited and read directly.

It sits in a corpus of 13,853 reports from 146 sources, 616 of them written in the last seven days, and it grows through the day.

A new account starts with three days of all of it, no card, then keeps the government and CERT reporting free. Name the vendors you run and Slack hears about the reports that touch them — about forty a week that are yours, not the four hundred that are not.
