NCSC unveils Cyber Shield agentic AI defence plan
NCSC and DSIT announced Cyber Shield, a national blueprint to embed agentic AI into UK cyber defence and counter AI-accelerated attacks.
The UK's National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), alongside the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT), has published a policy blog outlining 'Cyber Shield' — a proposed national-scale, sovereign agentic AI cyber defence capability. The initiative was announced following GCHQ Director Anne Keast-Butler's Bletchley Park lecture and aims to combine 'red' and 'blue' AI agents to autonomously discover vulnerabilities, detect and contain intrusions, and eventually automate mitigation at national scale (e.g., automated blocking of malicious domains/networks, national IP-range scanning).
