Lantronix Provisioning Manager XXE enables unauthenticated RCE
Free public brief. The indicators, the detections with Splunk SPL already written (plus Elastic and KQL where they apply), and a Slack alert the next time this touches a vendor you run are in the app — free account, no card.
XXE vulnerability in Lantronix Provisioning Manager versions 7.10.2 and prior allows unauthenticated remote code execution via malicious configuration files.
Lantronix Provisioning Manager versions 7.10.2 and earlier contain an XML External Entity (XXE) injection vulnerability (CVE-2025-7766) that allows unauthenticated attackers to execute arbitrary code on systems running the affected software. The vulnerability exists in the handling of configuration files supplied by network devices and requires low attack complexity but user interaction to trigger. With a CVSS v4 score of 8.6, this is a serious flaw affecting the IT sector worldwide.
Attackers can exploit this by crafting malicious XML configuration files that trigger XXE processing, potentially leading to remote code execution. No public exploitation has been reported at the time of this advisory. Lantronix has released version 7.10.4 or later as the fix. Defenders should prioritize updating affected Provisioning Manager instances immediately and implement network segmentation to limit exposure of ICS and IT infrastructure to untrusted sources.

Detection guidance
Lantronix Provisioning Manager Process Spawning Shell or Script Interpreter (Windows)
Lantronix Provisioning Manager (Java-based) spawning cmd, PowerShell or LOLBin interpreters, consistent with post-exploitation of the XXE-to-RCE flaw CVE-2025-7766. Auto-generated starting point — validate and tune in your environment before deploying. IOC matches can false-positive on shared infrastructure and decay as adversary infrastructure rotates.
title: Lantronix Provisioning Manager Process Spawning Shell or Script Interpreter
(Windows)
description: Detects a process belonging to Lantronix Provisioning Manager spawning
a command interpreter or common download/execution utility. This is expected after
successful exploitation of the XXE to RCE flaw CVE-2025-7766, because the server
component should not launch interactive shells.

What this brief leaves out
This page is the free tier: the write-up, the severity, the names. In the app the same report carries its extracted indicators, its detections (Splunk SPL already written, plus Elastic and Microsoft KQL where they apply), the actors and CVEs it names as live profiles, and the vendor research on the same campaign — the primary source the news paraphrased, cited and read directly.
It sits in a corpus of 13,854 reports from 146 sources, 616 of them written in the last seven days, and it grows through the day.
A new account starts with three days of all of it, no card, then keeps the government and CERT reporting free. Name the vendors you run and Slack hears about the reports that touch them — about forty a week that are yours, not the four hundred that are not.
