> A privilege escalation vulnerability in Inductive Automation Ignition lets an authenticated low-level user gain higher access; no known exploitation yet.

CISA published an ICS advisory for Inductive Automation's Ignition SCADA platform, detailing CVE-2026-92817, a vulnerability that allows an authenticated low-level user to escalate privileges to a higher-level role within the application. Affected versions span Ignition 8.1.0 through 8.1.54 and 8.3.0 through 8.3.8. The flaw was reported to Inductive Automation by researcher Tim Hemingway.

Ignition is widely deployed across Critical Manufacturing, Energy, and Information Technology sectors worldwide, with the vendor headquartered in the United States. CISA states no known public exploitation targeting this vulnerability has been reported at this time. Standard ICS mitigation guidance is recommended: minimize internet exposure of control system devices, isolate control networks behind firewalls, and use VPNs with awareness of their own security limitations when remote access is required. Organizations should also apply standard phishing and social engineering defenses, and report any suspected malicious activity to CISA.

Defenders running Ignition should check their installed version against the affected ranges and apply vendor patches when available, since the advisory does not specify a fixed version. Given the authenticated-access prerequisite and lack of in-the-wild exploitation, this is a notable but not urgent patching priority for affected ICS/SCADA environments.
