Hitachi Energy MACH HiDraw buffer overflow in XML parser
Free public brief. The indicators, the detections with Splunk SPL already written (plus Elastic and KQL where they apply), and a Slack alert the next time this touches a vendor you run are in the app — free account, no card.
Heap-based buffer overflow in MACH HiDraw versions 9.22 and prior allows authenticated local code execution via malicious XML.
Hitachi Energy has disclosed a heap-based buffer overflow vulnerability (CVE-2026-7310) in MACH HiDraw, a control system product deployed in critical infrastructure including dams, energy, and transportation systems worldwide. The vulnerability exists in the XML parser functionality and requires an authenticated attacker with local access to exploit it using a specially crafted XML file. Successful exploitation could result in denial of service through application crashes or arbitrary code execution, compromising system confidentiality and integrity.
Affected versions are MACH HiDraw 9.22 and earlier. Hitachi Energy has released version 9.23 as a fix. The advisory provides no indication of in-the-wild exploitation. Mitigation relies on standard industrial control system hardening: network segmentation, firewall policies limiting exposed ports, air-gapping from the internet, physical access controls, and disabling internet-facing functionality on affected systems. Organizations should prioritize upgrading to version 9.23 and implement network isolation controls given the critical-infrastructure deployment footprint.

Detection guidance
MACH HiDraw Process Spawning Shell or Script Interpreter
A MACH HiDraw process spawning a command shell, script host or LOLBin, which may indicate code execution after exploitation of the XML parser heap overflow (CVE-2026-7310). Auto-generated starting point — validate and tune in your environment before deploying. IOC matches can false-positive on shared infrastructure and decay as adversary infrastructure rotates.
title: MACH HiDraw Process Spawning Shell or Script Interpreter
description: Detects a process whose parent image path contains HiDraw spawning a
command shell, script host or common LOLBin. The advisory for CVE-2026-7310 says
a crafted XML file can cause arbitrary code execution in the XML parser, and the
usual result is the engineering application launching an interpreter. The advisory
names no process, so the HiDraw parent match is derived from the product name and
should be tuned to the local install path and executable name.

What this brief leaves out
This page is the free tier: the write-up, the severity, the names. In the app the same report carries its extracted indicators, its detections (Splunk SPL already written, plus Elastic and Microsoft KQL where they apply), the actors and CVEs it names as live profiles, and the vendor research on the same campaign — the primary source the news paraphrased, cited and read directly.
It sits in a corpus of 13,854 reports from 146 sources, 616 of them written in the last seven days, and it grows through the day.
A new account starts with three days of all of it, no card, then keeps the government and CERT reporting free. Name the vendors you run and Slack hears about the reports that touch them — about forty a week that are yours, not the four hundred that are not.
