Dell System Update patches five RCE flaws

Dell System Update versions prior to 2.3.0.0 contain multiple vulnerabilities, the most severe allowing unauthenticated remote code execution as root.

MS-ISAC advisory 2026-111 details five vulnerabilities in Dell System Update (DSU), a Windows utility used to find and install BIOS, driver, firmware, and application updates on Dell computers. The most severe flaw, CVE-2026-86360, could allow an unauthenticated remote attacker to gain filesystem access and ultimately execute arbitrary code with root privileges, leading to complete compromise of the application and underlying operating system.

Four additional lower-severity vulnerabilities were identified: an improper certificate validation issue (CVE-2026-63697) exploitable by a highly privileged remote attacker for code execution; a path traversal flaw (CVE-2026-71168) exploitable by a low-privileged local attacker; and two privilege escalation issues stemming from incorrect permission assignment (CVE-2026-86361) and improper access control (CVE-2026-86362), both exploitable by low-privileged local attackers.

There are no current reports of in-the-wild exploitation. Affected organizations running Dell System Update prior to version 2.3.0.0 should apply vendor updates promptly, enforce least privilege, and maintain standard vulnerability management and patching processes as outlined in the advisory.

What this brief leaves out

This page is the free tier: the write-up, the severity, the names. In the app the same report carries its extracted indicators, its detections (Splunk SPL already written, plus Elastic and Microsoft KQL where they apply), the actors and CVEs it names as live profiles, and the vendor research on the same campaign — the primary source the news paraphrased, cited and read directly.

It sits in a corpus of 13,854 reports from 146 sources, 616 of them written in the last seven days, and it grows through the day.

A new account starts with three days of all of it, no card, then keeps the government and CERT reporting free. Name the vendors you run and Slack hears about the reports that touch them — about forty a week that are yours, not the four hundred that are not.
