HPE Patches 34 Brocade Fabric OS Flaws

Free public brief. The indicators, the detections with Splunk SPL already written (plus Elastic and KQL where they apply), and a Slack alert the next time this touches a vendor you run are in the app — free account, no card.

HPE fixed 34 vulnerabilities in Brocade Fabric OS, some allowing unauthenticated attackers to run root commands or bypass authentication on SAN fabric switches.

NCSC-NL (Netherlands' national CERT) published an advisory summarizing 34 CVEs that HPE/Broadcom patched in Brocade Fabric OS, the operating system used on Brocade storage-area-network (SAN) fabric switches. Affected versions are all releases prior to 10.0.1, including the 9.2.x and 10.0.x lines. The flaws span a wide range of weakness classes including authentication bypass, missing authentication for critical functions, path traversal, OS/argument/CRLF command injection, stack and heap-based buffer overflows, out-of-bounds reads, race conditions, and incorrect permission/authorization assignment. Vulnerable components include the diagnostic kernel module, the IKEv2 protocol handler, the WebTools web management interface, and the REST API.

Impact ranges from denial of service and information disclosure to privilege escalation and arbitrary/root-level command execution, both locally and against other fabric members. Attack vectors include crafted management requests, REST API calls, WebTools interface interactions, and malicious configuration files. Some vulnerabilities require authenticated access, but others can be exploited by unauthenticated, network-adjacent attackers, and several allow session-context or HTTP-header spoofing, or expose sensitive system and monitoring data without proper authorization. Race conditions and thread-safety issues in logging and access control are also noted, which could allow attackers to evade audit trails.

HPE has released updated Fabric OS versions addressing all listed CVEs (CVSS v4 scores ranging from 2.1 to 8.6, with multiple issues above 8.0 enabling significant compromise of fabric integrity, confidentiality or availability). No in-the-wild exploitation is reported in this advisory. Defenders operating Brocade SAN fabrics should prioritize patching to Fabric OS 10.0.1 or later, restrict management/REST API and WebTools access to trusted networks, and review audit logs for anomalous administrative actions given the logging/race-condition issues described.

What this brief leaves out

This page is the free tier: the write-up, the severity, the names. In the app the same report carries its extracted indicators, its detections (Splunk SPL already written, plus Elastic and Microsoft KQL where they apply), the actors and CVEs it names as live profiles, and the vendor research on the same campaign — the primary source the news paraphrased, cited and read directly.

It sits in a corpus of 13,854 reports from 146 sources, 614 of them written in the last seven days, and it grows through the day.

A new account starts with three days of all of it, no card, then keeps the government and CERT reporting free. Name the vendors you run and Slack hears about the reports that touch them — about forty a week that are yours, not the four hundred that are not.
