> CWE-200 in Modicon M340 and ethernet modules allows remote information disclosure and denial of service; patches available.

Schneider Electric has released a security advisory for a CWE-200 information exposure vulnerability (CVE-2024-12142) affecting the Modicon M340 programmable logic controller and associated ethernet communication modules. The vulnerability has a CVSS v3.1 score of 8.6 and allows an unauthenticated remote attacker with low attack complexity to disclose sensitive information from restricted web pages, modify web pages, and cause denial of service by invoking specific functions. The affected products include all versions of Modicon M340 processors (BMXP34*), BMXNOE0100 prior to SV3.60, BMXNOE0110 prior to SV6.80, and BMXNOR0200H prior to SV1.70IR26. These devices are widely deployed in critical manufacturing, energy, and commercial facilities worldwide.

Schneider Electric has released firmware patches for the ethernet communication modules (BMXNOE0100, BMXNOE0110, and BMXNOR0200H), but remediation for the Modicon M340 processors themselves is still under development. No active exploitation has been reported to CISA. Defenders should immediately apply available patches through appropriate change management procedures and implement compensating controls including network segmentation, firewall blocking of FTP port 21, and disabling the FTP and web server services on affected devices via EcoStruxure Control Expert unless required for operations.
