Hitachi Energy MSM vulnerabilities determined not to affect product

elevated vulnerability energy

Free public brief. The indicators, the detections with Splunk SPL already written (plus Elastic and KQL where they apply), and a Slack alert the next time this touches a vendor you run are in the app — free account, no card.

CISA clarifies that reported vulnerabilities do not affect Hitachi Energy MSM; no customer action required.

Hitachi Energy and CISA have issued an advisory clarifying that public reports of vulnerabilities initially believed to affect certain versions of Hitachi Energy MSM have been determined not to apply to the product following technical analysis and validation. Two CVEs were initially referenced: CVE-2024-2398, a memory leak in libcurl when HTTP/2 server push headers exceed limits, and CVE-2019-5097, a denial-of-service vulnerability in GoAhead web server affecting multi-part/form-data request processing. Neither vulnerability affects MSM.

This advisory represents a remediation or clarification of earlier reports rather than an active threat to MSM deployments. The guidance emphasizes general hardening practices: MSM should not be internet-facing, and defenders should ensure user access controls, antivirus signatures, and OS hardening per CIS benchmarks on systems running the MSM Client application. No patching is required.

The advisory is a CISA republication of Hitachi Energy's vendor security advisory and carries no active exploitation signal.

What this brief leaves out

This page is the free tier: the write-up, the severity, the names. In the app the same report carries its extracted indicators, its detections (Splunk SPL already written, plus Elastic and Microsoft KQL where they apply), the actors and CVEs it names as live profiles, and the vendor research on the same campaign — the primary source the news paraphrased, cited and read directly.

It sits in a corpus of 13,854 reports from 146 sources, 616 of them written in the last seven days, and it grows through the day.

A new account starts with three days of all of it, no card, then keeps the government and CERT reporting free. Name the vendors you run and Slack hears about the reports that touch them — about forty a week that are yours, not the four hundred that are not.
