high threat retailtechnology

Free public brief. The indicators, the detections with Splunk SPL already written (plus Elastic and KQL where they apply), and a Slack alert the next time this touches a vendor you run are in the app — free account, no card.

thegentlemen ransomware operators claim to have compromised Mercado Libre and exfiltrated data from over 118k users.

Ransomware.live reports that the thegentlemen ransomware group has claimed responsibility for a compromise of Mercado Libre, the major Latin American e-commerce platform. According to the posting indexed by the platform, the attackers claim to have accessed credentials for 118,244 users and 4 third-party employee accounts, along with identifying 100 items of external attack surface and DNS records associated with the victim's infrastructure. The report notes this is publicly visible information indexed from ransomware operator postings and does not include access to underlying stolen data itself.

Mercado Libre operates across multiple countries in Latin America and serves as a critical commerce platform. The scale of user credential exposure (over 118k accounts) represents a significant data breach affecting legitimate users of the platform. Defenders at Mercado Libre and related organizations should treat this as an active compromise requiring incident response investigation, credential rotation, and notification of affected users in accordance with applicable data protection regulations.

What this brief leaves out

This page is the free tier: the write-up, the severity, the names. In the app the same report carries its extracted indicators, its detections (Splunk SPL already written, plus Elastic and Microsoft KQL where they apply), the actors and CVEs it names as live profiles, and the vendor research on the same campaign — the primary source the news paraphrased, cited and read directly.

It sits in a corpus of 13,854 reports from 146 sources, 614 of them written in the last seven days, and it grows through the day.

A new account starts with three days of all of it, no card, then keeps the government and CERT reporting free. Name the vendors you run and Slack hears about the reports that touch them — about forty a week that are yours, not the four hundred that are not.
