> Unauthenticated metadata uploader flaw in SAP Visual Composer allows remote code execution and is being exploited in the wild.

A critical vulnerability has been discovered in SAP NetWeaver Visual Composer, a web-based business process modelling tool used to create application components without code. The flaw affects VCFRAMEWORK version 7.50 and stems from improper authorization on the Metadata Uploader component, which allows unauthenticated attackers to upload malicious executable binaries. Successful exploitation grants remote code execution in the system context and impacts confidentiality, integrity, and availability. ReliaQuest and watchtower have confirmed active exploitation of CVE-2025-31324 in the wild. Defenders should immediately apply SAP patches after testing, implement network segmentation to isolate affected systems, enforce least-privilege access controls, and conduct vulnerability scanning and penetration testing to identify compromised instances.

## Mentioned in this report

- Vulnerabilities: CVE-2025-31324 (KEV)

## Detection guidance (public sample)

### SAP NetWeaver Visual Composer Metadata Uploader POST Request

ATT&CK: T1190

Detects POST requests to the Visual Composer Metadata Uploader endpoint, abused in CVE-2025-31324 for unauthenticated upload of malicious binaries. Auto-generated starting point — validate and tune in your environment before deploying. IOC matches can false-positive on shared infrastructure and decay as adversary infrastructure rotates.

```yaml
title: SAP NetWeaver Visual Composer Metadata Uploader POST Request
description: Detects HTTP POST requests to the SAP NetWeaver Visual Composer Metadata
  Uploader component, which is the vulnerable endpoint in CVE-2025-31324 (unauthenticated
  file upload leading to RCE). The component is rarely used legitimately on internet-facing
  systems, so any request should be reviewed.
detection:
  selection:
    cs-method: POST
falsepositives:
- Legitimate Visual Composer developers uploading metadata on an internal development
  server
- Authorized vulnerability scanners or penetration tests against SAP systems
### SAP NetWeaver Java Process Spawning Shell or Download Utility on Windows
ATT&CK: T1190
Detects the SAP NetWeaver Java server process spawning command interpreters or LOLBins, indicating post-exploitation RCE after an upload exploit such as CVE-2025-31324. Auto-generated starting point — validate and tune in your environment before deploying. IOC matches can false-positive on shared infrastructure and decay as adversary infrastructure rotates.
```yaml
title: SAP NetWeaver Java Process Spawning Shell or Download Utility on Windows
description: Detects the SAP NetWeaver Java server process (jstart.exe or java.exe
  running from a usr\sap directory) spawning cmd, PowerShell or common download/execution
  utilities. This indicates code execution in the SAP service context, as seen after
  exploitation of the Visual Composer Metadata Uploader flaw.

### SAP NetWeaver Java Process Spawning Shell or Download Utility on Linux

ATT&CK: T1190

Detects the SAP NetWeaver Java server process on Linux spawning a shell or download tool, indicating RCE after exploitation of an upload flaw. Auto-generated starting point — validate and tune in your environment before deploying. IOC matches can false-positive on shared infrastructure and decay as adversary infrastructure rotates.

```yaml
title: SAP NetWeaver Java Process Spawning Shell or Download Utility on Linux
description: Detects a Java or jstart process running from a /usr/sap path spawning
  a shell or download utility on Linux. This indicates web-exploit-driven code execution
  on SAP NetWeaver, as in CVE-2025-31324.
