SAP NetWeaver Visual Composer RCE actively exploited
Free public brief. The indicators, the detections with Splunk SPL already written (plus Elastic and KQL where they apply), and a Slack alert the next time this touches a vendor you run are in the app — free account, no card.
Unauthenticated metadata uploader flaw in SAP Visual Composer allows remote code execution and is being exploited in the wild.
A critical vulnerability has been discovered in SAP NetWeaver Visual Composer, a web-based business process modelling tool used to create application components without code. The flaw affects VCFRAMEWORK version 7.50 and stems from improper authorization on the Metadata Uploader component, which allows unauthenticated attackers to upload malicious executable binaries. Successful exploitation grants remote code execution in the system context and impacts confidentiality, integrity, and availability. ReliaQuest and watchtower have confirmed active exploitation of CVE-2025-31324 in the wild. Defenders should immediately apply SAP patches after testing, implement network segmentation to isolate affected systems, enforce least-privilege access controls, and conduct vulnerability scanning and penetration testing to identify compromised instances.

Detection guidance
SAP NetWeaver Visual Composer Metadata Uploader POST Request
Detects POST requests to the Visual Composer Metadata Uploader endpoint, abused in CVE-2025-31324 for unauthenticated upload of malicious binaries. Auto-generated starting point — validate and tune in your environment before deploying. IOC matches can false-positive on shared infrastructure and decay as adversary infrastructure rotates.
title: SAP NetWeaver Visual Composer Metadata Uploader POST Request
description: Detects HTTP POST requests to the SAP NetWeaver Visual Composer Metadata
Uploader component, which is the vulnerable endpoint in CVE-2025-31324 (unauthenticated
file upload leading to RCE). The component is rarely used legitimately on internet-facing
systems, so any request should be reviewed.

SAP NetWeaver Java Process Spawning Shell or Download Utility on Windows
Detects the SAP NetWeaver Java server process spawning command interpreters or LOLBins, indicating post-exploitation RCE after an upload exploit such as CVE-2025-31324. Auto-generated starting point — validate and tune in your environment before deploying. IOC matches can false-positive on shared infrastructure and decay as adversary infrastructure rotates.

running from a usr\sap directory) spawning cmd, PowerShell or common download/execution
utilities. This indicates code execution in the SAP service context, as seen after
exploitation of the Visual Composer Metadata Uploader flaw.

What this brief leaves out
This page is the free tier: the write-up, the severity, the names. In the app the same report carries its extracted indicators, its detections (Splunk SPL already written, plus Elastic and Microsoft KQL where they apply), the actors and CVEs it names as live profiles, and the vendor research on the same campaign — the primary source the news paraphrased, cited and read directly.
It sits in a corpus of 13,854 reports from 146 sources, 616 of them written in the last seven days, and it grows through the day.
A new account starts with three days of all of it, no card, then keeps the government and CERT reporting free. Name the vendors you run and Slack hears about the reports that touch them — about forty a week that are yours, not the four hundred that are not.
